Cold weather to prevail on Valentine’s Day

Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The strong northeast monsoon will continue to bring cold weather and isolated light rains in the country this Valentine’s Day.

Aldczar Aurelio, weather forecaster at the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), said lower temperatures are still expected in some tourist destinations today.

He said morning temperatures are likely to go down to 20 degrees Celsius in Metro Manila, 9 degrees Celsius in Baguio City and 18 degrees Celsius in Tagaytay City.

The northeast monsoon will also bring isolated light rains.

Cloudy skies with light rains will prevail over the regions of Cagayan Valley, Cordillera, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Caraga, Davao and the provinces of Aurora, Quezon and Rizal.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains will persist over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

PAGASA also warned the public against big waves over the northern seaboards of Northern Luzon, the eastern seaboards of the Visayas and the western seaboard of Luzon due to the surge of the northeast monsoon.

Aurelio said a low-pressure area was spotted east of the Philippines yesterday.

However, it is not expected to enter the country within the next 24 hours.

Aurelio said the northeast monsoon is likely to weaken tomorrow.
