Not an NBI agent: Another suspect in Korean kidnap-slay case surrenders
MANILA, Philippines – Another suspect in the killing of Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo surfaced on Monday, seeking protective custody from National Bureau of Investigation.
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II presented Jerry Omlang who voluntarily surrendered his department on Friday.
Omlang admitted that he took part in the kidnapping of Jee in his residence in Angeles City, Pampanga in October.
He added that he worked with accused killer SPO3 Ricky Sta. Isabel, Superintendent Raphael Dumlao of Philippine National Police-Anti-Illegal Drugs Group (AIDG), SPO4 Roy Villegas and other suspects identified only as alias “Pulis” and a driver of the van.
The suspect also confirmed he was the one who withdrew money from the account of Jee’s wife as seen in a closed-circuit television camera footage.
Omlang revealed he is receiving death threats from the mastermind of the operation AIDG team leader Dumlao.
Not an NBI agent
NBI Director Dante Gierran, meanwhile, clarified that Omlang is not an NBI agent or an informant of the bureau as he was only a “striker” or a volunteer.
Gierran added that no NBI agent was involved in the killing of Jee, who was strangled to death inside the premises of the PNP national headquarters.
“Wala po, kung mayroon talaga, papatayin ko sila,” the NBI chief said at news conference.
President Rodrigo Duterte at a late night press briefing on Sunday gave the NBI 48 hours to present the alleged three agents involved in the case.
Duterte offered a P1 million reward for each of the suspects unless they surrender.
He also threatened Gierran of losing his job if they would not catch the NBI agents before deadline.
