MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police Director General Ronald Dela Rosa on Tuesday promised cleansing within the organization in 2017, saying there are still police officers involved in crime.
Dela Rosa said that a former PNP chief has already called him out on the matter.
Dela Rosa said that he told the former PNP chief, whom he later identified as Sen. Panfilo Lacson, that there are operations against criminals within the police organization but admitted that the focus is more on operations against criminals outside.
He added that the senator is very concerned with the internal cleansing of the police organization, which he ran when Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada was president.
The current PNP chief revealed that all the former PNP chiefs are his advisers.
Dela Rosa added that Lacson's advice was constructed. He said that the senator is his "Number 1 Adviser" because of his concern for the PNP.
