Actor Montano to head Tourism Promotions Board
MANILA, Philippines – Actor Cesar Montano has been appointed by President Duterte to head the marketing arm of the country’s tourism department.
The Department of Tourism yesterday confirmed the appointment of Montano as chief operating officer of the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB).
“The DOT has received the letter from Malacañang regarding the appointment,” Tourism assistant secretary Frederick Alegre said.
Rumors regarding the possible placement of the actor as head of TPB have been circulating for months before it became official.
Montano is a Filipino actor, film producer and director. He has worked on films such as Jose Rizal, El Presidente and Muro Ami. He ran for senator under the administration Team Unity of then president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in 2007.
The TPB, under the Tourism Act of 2009, is in charge of formulating and implementing an integrated domestic and international promotions and marketing program of the DOT.
The board is made up of Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo as chairman, together with key officials from the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone, Department Of Foreign Affairs, Department of Trade and Industry, and Department of Transportation, among others.
