PhilStar gets PhlPost award for promoting letter writing

Associate editor Marichu Villanueva receives a plaque of appreciation for The Philippine STAR from PHLPost postmaster general Joel Otarra, board of directors chairman Norman Fulgencio and board member Cristina Caringal on Monday.

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost) on Monday presented its plaque of appreciation to The Philippine STAR for helping promote the art of letter writing.

The award, handed by PHLPost postmaster general Joel Otarra, board of directors chairman Norman Fulgencio and board member Cristina Caringal, was accepted by STAR associate editor Marichu Villanueva on behalf of president and Chief Executive Officer Miguel Belmonte.

“The Philippine STAR has been our partner in promoting letter writing to the students. It has brought back the art of letter writing and at the same time encouraged people to write letters. The Philippine STAR was one of our media partners that really helped us in disseminating that information to the public,” said PHLPost assistant postmaster general for marketing Luis Carlos.

These days, people no longer have much interest in letter writing due to modern technology and prefer sending messages through mobile phones or the various forms of social media.

Aside from The STAR, the post office also gave the same award to UNTV and the show Umagang Kay Ganda aired over ABS-CBN.

PHLPost also awarded its top 12 corporate clients for 2016: the Social Security System, Banco de Oro, Commission on Elections, Bank of the Philippine Islands, Citibank, Procurement Service-Department of Budget and Management, PhilHealth, Department of Health, Sunlife Financial, Pag-IBIG, Metropolitan Bank and Trust Co. and the Supreme Court.
