MANILA, Philippines -- The Department of Finance said an unnamed individual has offered a P1-million reward on the murder of Deputy Commissioner Arturo Lachica, who was killed in an ambush last Thursday.

The Bureau of Customs deputy commissioner was killed on November 17 at España, Manila while on his way home.

The Department of Finance, which has administrative control over the bureau, said that an individual is offering the reward for information leading to the arrest of people responsible for the murder. The department added that identities of would-be informants will be kept strictly confidential.

It said those who have information on Lachica's death should contact head executive assistant Marc Gregory Crisostomo or technical assistant Alddon Christner Ang at 5239215 and 5239219.

Lachica was shot by an unidentified gunman and sustained multiple gunshot wounds on the chest. He was brought to the United Doctors Medical Center nearby, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon said in a statement late Thursday that the bureau will exert all efforts to cooperate with the authorities to investigate the incident and find the people responsible.
