MANILA, Philippines -  The reception to celebrate the National Day of Spain was held last Oct. 12 at the Marriott Manila Hotel.

The event, hosted by Ambassador Luis Calvo and his wife Madam Maria Jose Carrasco, was attended by a full house of 700 guests from the diplomatic corps, government, business, the academe, civil society and other sectors.

The event opened with solemn yet simple interpretations of both national anthems from recordings of maestro Armando Salarza performing on the Bamboo Organ of Las Piñas. As Ambassador Calvo mentioned in his speech, the production sums up the multiple ties that bind the Philippines and Spain.

There was also a bountiful table of Spanish ham, sliced on site by an expert “cortador”. Emperador also supplied the open bar with their many fine products, especially their newly acquired brand “Fundador”.
