LIVE: Senate probe into Espinosa slay

MANILA, Philippines — The Senate committee on public order and dangerous drugs chaired by Sen. Panfilo Lacson will open its inquiry into the killing of Mayor Rolando Espinosa of Albuera, Leyte.

Espinosa was shot dead inside his cell in a sub-provincial jail in Baybay City, Leyte.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group of Region 8 reportedly attempted to serve a warract for Espinosa in connection with illegal possession of firearms inside his cell.

The mayor allegedly resisted arrest and was killed at around 4 a.m. on November 5.
