ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A bomb explosion rocked a village in Isabela City, Basilan on Thursday.

Superintendent Jerome Afuyug Jr., Isabela City police chief, said no one was reported hurt in the blast in front of a warehouse owned by district engineer Soler Undug in Barangay Aguada at around 10:15 p.m.

An improvised bomb also exploded outside Undug’s house in Barangay San Rafael on Oct.28.

Abu Sayyaf bandits were suspected to be behind the attacks. The bandits were reportedly opposing the construction of infrastructure projects in the province.

Other reports said the bandits were extorting money from Undug, who is the project supervisor of the Basilan circumferential road.

There were also reports that Abu Sayyaf gunmen are demanding that they be allowed to secure a road project in Tuburan town.
