MANILA, Philippines — The Senate justice committee on Thursday is set to resume its inquiry on the rising number of drug-related killings in the country.
On the sixth day of the hearing, Senate Resolutions 9 and 151 proving extrajudicial killings. The privilege speeches of Sens. Leila de Lima, Alan Peter Cayetano and Risa Hontiveros will also be tackled. Panel chair Sen. Richard Gordon also summoned police officials allegedly involved in the Davao Death Squad as tagged by ousted panel chairperson De Lima.
Last October 3, alleged Davao Death Squad members testified before the Senate panel. The hearing was suspended after senators clashed over the absence of self-confessed hitman Edgar Matobato as well as his pending kidnapping case. Sen. Manny Pacquiao, backed by Cayetano, moved for the termination of the hearing.
The hearing was initially scheduled from October 3 to 7. Gordon, however, allowed the suspension of the hearing until further notice as he said the point of the hearing is to determine the truth. Watch the hearing LIVE starting 9 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016:
