Palace declares Sept. 12 a holiday for Eid'l Adha

MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday declared Sept. 12, 2016, a Monday, a regular national holiday in observance of the Muslim celebration of Eid'l Adha.

Citing Republic Act 9849. the Palace said the country recognizes Eid'l Adha or Feast of Sacrifice as one of the two greatest feasts of Islam.

Eid'l Adha commemorates Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son, Ishmael, in obedience to the order of Allah.

The document, which serves as Proclamation 46, was signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea and Duterte.
