Duterte eyes talk with China over unclaimed corpses
MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday claimed that majority of unclaimed remains of alleged drug pushers are Chinese.
In a speech during a fellowship dinner of members of the San Beda Law Alumni in Malacañan Palace on Sunday, Duterte said that he wants to talk to China about the situation.
"Itong mga namatay dito na unclaimed, sino ang mag-claim nyan. Most of them really are Chinese. That's why that's my lamentations. Sabihin ko sa China one day bakit ganito ang sitwasyon," Duterte said.
According to the PNP-Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management, 192 drug pushers have been killed and 35, 276 drug personalities have surrendered before the police from May 10 to July 11.
The highest number of death among drug traffickers have been recorded in Police Regional Office (PRO) IV-A with 57, PRO 3 with 46 and NCRPO with 21.
The president has ordered mayors and local officials to curb the illegal drug trade in six months or they will lose control over the police. — with Efigenio Toledo IV
