Tinio, Loot deny illegal drug trade involvement

MANILA, Philippines — Two police generals denied Tuesday any involvement with the illegal drug trade following President Rodrigo Duterte's allegation.

Former Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Chief Superintendent Edgardo Tinio and retired police general Vicente Loot hope to get their names cleared soon.

Tinio said he is willing to undergo investigation and even report to Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa.

"I am willing to undergo lie detector test and I am willing (to) subject my phones for forensics,” he said in a televised phone interview with CNN Philippines.

“I am not hiding. I’m in my quarters I can report to the PNP director and clear my name,” he added.

Tinio said it surprised him when Duterte dropped his name along with four other PNP generals — PNP Deputy Director General Marcelo Garbo Jr., former National Capital Region Police Office chief Director Joel Pagdilao, Western Visayas regional director Chief Superintendent Bernardo Diaz and retired police general Vicente “Vic” Loot  — at a speech for the 69th anniversary of the Philippine Air Force.

He said during his stint as the QCPD chief "focused police operations" against illegal drugs were conducted.

Meanwhile, Loot said in a televised interview with ANC that he is a "perennial victim of black propaganda in Cebu” since his wife is among the rich local politicians. The retired general said he has a clear conscience.

“I hope I will be given the chance nga atubangon ang nag-accuse nako (I hope I will be given the chance to face those who accused me). Coming from the president, it's something I will have to take very, very seriously,” Loot said in another interview with The Freeman.

“I have an accountability to every Cebuano nga nakaila nako (kilala ako),” he added.
