Noy: No get-rich-quick formula vs poverty
MANILA, Philippines - There is no such thing as a “reset button” to instantly solve corruption in the government bureaucracy as there is also no get-rich-quick formula to end poverty in the country.
President Aquino, who ran and won in the 2010 presidential elections with the battle cry “there will be no poor and if there are no corrupt,” admitted it would be quite difficult to answer whether change had occurred in every level of bureaucracy given his administration’s fight against corruption.
“Maybe that is what we ran after because you could not reset the government, you could not fire the whole of the bureaucracy,” Aquino said in a recent exit interview with Radio TV Malacañang.
He said the administration decided to go after the “big fish” in its fight against corruption to send a message that no one would be spared and then filed more than 840 cases under the Revenue Integrity Protection Service, (RIPS), Run After the Tax Evaders (RATE) and Run After The Smugglers (RATS) programs.
