Cop who nabbed suspect in judge’s slay shot dead
MANILA, Philippines - A police officer who arrested the suspect in the killing of a Bulacan judge was shot dead in Imus, Cavite on Sunday afternoon.
A report from GMA 7’s 24 Oras said Police Officer 3 Arlene Lucban was driving a motorcycle with a child when he was killed at around 5:45 p.m. on Malagasang Road.
The assailant, who was on another motorcycle, did not harm the child.
The report said that Lucban, of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, arrested Jay Deogades Joson, alias Jepoy, the principal suspect in the killing of Judge Wilfredo Nieves of the Bulacan Regional Trial Court last year.
Nieves had convicted Raymond Dominguez, leader of a car theft group operating in Central Luzon.
The report said that Lucban pulled over to confront the assailant when he noticed that he was being followed. The suspect shot him in the chest.
The police officer managed to retaliate before he collapsed on the ground.
