MANILA, Philippines – Supporters of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte can soon add to their collection of Duterte memorabilia a special stamp to be issued by the Philippine Postal Corp. (PhlPost) featuring the incoming president.
Luis Carlos, PhlPost assistant postmaster general for marketing management and support services, yesterday said they would issue the stamp in the third quarter of the year, or after the oathtaking of Duterte on June 30.
It has been part of PhlPost’s tradition to feature presidents in their stamps to commemorate their oathtaking.
“In general, we are not just honoring presidents by issuing their stamps. We are also commemorating a historic event for the country for electing a new president. Being one of the nation’s keepers of history, it is right and just to relive this historic moment through a stamp,” Carlos told The STAR.
The Post Office might print out 101,000 copies of the Duterte stamps so this could be used for regular mail and be circulated all over the country.
“We would also send stamps to the Universal Postal Union so people will know that we have a new president,” he added.
