Duterte oversees signing of coalition between PDP-Laban, NP
MANILA, Philippines – After a 90-minute press conference, presumptive president Davao City Mayor Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte of Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) led the signing of a coalition partnership between his party and the Nacionalista Party (NP).
As chair of the PDP-Laban, Duterte witnessed the forging of PDP-Laban and NP “coalition for change.”
PDP-Laban President Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III signed the deal on behalf of his party while former House Speaker and Senate President Manuel “Manny” Villar represented NP.
The signing of the agreement symbolizes the cooperation of both parties in assuring development under the incoming administration.
Also present during the signing were NP members, Duterte’s running mate Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano and Sen. Cynthia Villar.
Nacionalista Party is one of the the oldest political parties in the Philippines founded in 1907, while PDP-Laban was launched in 1982.
On Feb. 9, 2016, Duterte took oath as the PDP-Laban’s chair. — Rosette Adel
