Duterte, Marcos win media, government voting

MANILA, Philippines — Presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Rodrigo "Rody" Duterte and vice presidential candidate Sen. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Wednesday emerged as the top contenders in local absentee voting.

Guanzon said there that of the 24,814 local absentee votes,  Duterte and Marcos acquired 10,283 votes and 11,683 votes, respectively.

Local absentee voting was set from April 27 to 29 for some members of the media, government employees and security personnel who would not be able to vote on May 9 polling day due to the nature of their work.

Duterte's rival, Vice President Jejomar "Jojo" Binay, got 4,375 votes. Sen. Grace Poe gathered 1,628 votes, while Liberal Party standard-bearer Manuel "Mar" Roxas II got 1,419 votes. Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago, meanwhile, earned two votes.

Vice presidential candidate Maria Leonor "Leni" Robredo followed Marcos with 2,341 votes. Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, meanwhile, was voted by 2,134 and Sen. Antonio "Sonny" Trillanes IV earned 1,588 votes. Sen. Francis "Chiz" Escudero registered 944 vote,s while Sen. Gregorio "Gringo" Honasan got 314 votes.

Guanzon, however, clarified that the numbers are still based on unofficial tallies, which are are yet to be canvassed. — Rosette Adel
