San Miguel: Alleged P500-M check for Trillanes is fake

MANILA, Philippines - San Miguel Corp. said that the photo of a check for P500 million that it supposedly issued to Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV is fake.

On Thursday night, a photo of a Banco De Oro check worth P500 million went viral on social media. Facebook user Antonio Tamarkis posted the photo and claimed that the signatures on the check matches with those of officers of SMC.

"This is nothing more than a fabrication and a blatant disinformation. SMC does not have an account in the said bank branch and has never issued such check to Senator Trillanes," SMC said in a statement issued on Thursday.

SMC also produced a document from BDO certifying that account number 001168795215 does not exist in the bank's system.

"Having said that, we denounce, in the strongest terms, this apparent effort to deceive the public and drag our company's good name in [sic] current political issues," the company said.

Trillanes earlier alleged Davao City Rodrigo Duterte has an undeclared bank account with a balance of around P211 million, which the he did not include in his 2014 Statement of Assets and Liabilities.

Duterte initially denied that the account at the Bank of the Philippine Islands branch in Pasig exists, but has since reportedly admitted to having two BPI accounts.
