MANILA, Philippines - This time, presidential frontrunner Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is being featured in a comic book.
The illustrator of the controversial comic book depicting Liberal Party presidential bet Manuel Roxas II as the hero during the onslaught of Super Typhoon Yolanda said he also did a comic book featuring Duterte.
In a Facebook post, illustrator Karl Comendador confirmed that the new comic book was for Duterte and it was also a commissioned work.
A page of the Duterte comic book was posted on Comendador’s Facebook page.
It shows Duterte talking to a man lying in bed, carrying a girl, and talking to some people in what appeared to be a meeting after a calamity.
As of 4 p.m. yesterday, Comendador’s post has gained 348 likes, 59 shares and 11 comments.
Facebook user Darwin Can said he hopes to have a copy of the Duterte comic book at the Komikon, the annual Philippine Komiks Convention. But Comendador said it is not going to be released in Luzon.
Duterte said he first saw a copy of the comic book in Tuguegarao a few weeks ago.
“Hindi sa akin ’yan. Sa mga brod ko yan sa frat. Ipinakita lang nila ako (It’s not mine. It’s from my brothers in the fraternity. I was just featured). It is not actually a comics and nobody is being glorified there,” he said in an interview in Lipa, Batangas.
Comendador was bashed online after he depicted Roxas as a hero during the onslaught of Yolanda in Tacloban City.
The illustrator said he was just doing his job and it was nothing personal.
