Poe to kick off campaign in Plaza Miranda
MANILA, Philippines – Sen. Grace Poe and her team will start the campaign with a proclamation rally in Plaza Miranda in Manila on Tuesday.
“I am offering my candidacy to God and to our people. Quiapo Church is significant because it is a symbol of the devotion of our people to the Black Nazarene, and their faith that nothing is insurmountable with God’s grace,” Poe said, referring to the Catholic church beside the plaza.
She will be joined by vice presidential candidate Sen. Francis Escudero and the entire Galing at Puso (GP) senatorial lineup and their supporters.
“Like most Filipinos, Senator Poe is a prayerful person. She has been going regularly to Quiapo Church to pray – when confronted with challenges, when thanking God for the goodness in her life, when seeking guidance and protection,” said Valenzuela Mayor Rex Gatchalian, Poe’s political spokesman.
Poe’s candidacy has been hanging because of her pending appeal before the Supreme Court on the disqualification orders issued by the Commission on Elections.
“As she embarks on a very important milestone in her life, she once again seeks guidance and wisdom from our Lord God,” Gatchalian said, adding that Plaza Miranda is reflective of Poe’s prayerful character and the innate character of Filipinos to turn to God and pray.
Partido GP, which asked Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada’s permission to hold the kick-off event at Plaza Miranda, said it has secured all necessary permits from Comelec and the city government.
