MANILA, Philippines – Vice President Jejomar “Jojo” Binay’s camp on Tuesday responded to the recent statements made by the Liberal Party’s (LP) presidential bet Manuel “Mar” Roxas II against the vice president.

In a statement, Vice Presidential Spokesperson for Political Affairs Rico Quicho said “the apparent full-court press of the LP against Binay is a crude attempt to divert attention from its utter failure to address poverty."

“Sa halip na magkalat ng kasinungalingan at manira, pag-usapan natin ang masakit na katotohanan. Pagkaraan ng anim na taon, 11 milyong pamilyang Pilipino ang naghihirap, tatlong milyong pamilya ang nagugutom, 10 milyong Pilipino ang walang trabaho. Umunlad nga ang ekonomiya, pero iilan lang ang nakinabang,” Quicho said.

“This administration has failed to uplift the lives of the poor because of its ineptitude and incompetence. No sugar coating or diversionary tactics will cover-up these glaring facts,” he added.

Quicho was reacting to the latest statement from LP which said that “the country is doomed if Binay wins the presidency in the elections this May.”

The LP report said Roxas was only reacting to Binay’s tirades against him quoting his defense on the alleged delayed response during the rehabilitation of Typhoon Yolanda-hit areas as well as the issue on President Benigno Aquino III’s government underspending.

Roxas was quoted saying that Binay should instead react on the corruption allegations against him instead of picking on him.

In September 2015, Roxas and Binay’s camps engaged in a word war after Binay implied that there might be cheating in the 2016 elections and for alluding that the LP bets will violate the law on election spending.
