PNoy hit for 'turning his back' on comfort women

Rosette Adel - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines – A group of comfort women criticized President Benigno Aquino III for allegedly ignoring their demand for justice and apology during his meeting with Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan.

Liga Ng Mga Lolang Pilipina (LILA Pilipina) protested on how they were ignored by Aquino who instead chose to speak about business with the imperial couple.

“As expected, President Aquino remained mum on the issue of comfort women in his talk with emperor. That he chose to speak about traffic and the car industry, with nary a word on the comfort women’s plight is proof enough that he has completely turned his back in the lolas,” LILA Pilipina said in a statement.

“Rest assured that in the minds and hearts of the lolas, Aquino has been cursed and thrown in the garbage of history,” it added.

“His heir to the Matuwid na Daan will experience the same treatment should he choose the path of neglect for the comfort women issue as Aquino,” LILA Pilipina said.

LILA Pilipina is demanding justice and apology from the Japanese royal couple, Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko as they were victims of rape when they were organized as comfort women during the World War II in 1941. The group said they were forgotten since.

On Wednesday, the imperial couple, Akihito and Michiko, met with Aquino at the Malacañang but reports said there was no mention of the war during the meeting.
