Comelec moves printing of ballots anew

Patricia Lourdes Viray - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced on Tuesday that it is moving the start of ballot printing for the upcoming elections from February 1 to February 8.

The poll body is eyeing to complete ballot printing by April 25, according to a report from the STAR.

Senate President Franklin Drilon earlier asked the Comelec to defer the printing of ballots until the Supreme Court releases a decision on the disqualification cases pending before it.

"Pushing through with printing the ballots even before the SC can decide on the disqualification cases is equivalent to an utter disrespect to the Supreme Court and its jurisdiction on the matter," Drilon earlier said.

Despite disqualification cases filed against them, presidential aspirants Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Sen. Grace Poe were still included in the initial list of presidential candidates that the poll body released last week.
