MANILA, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday announced Comelec Commissioner Arthur Lim to be the lead counsel in the disqualification cases filed against presidential aspirant Sen. Grace Poe before the Supreme Court (SC).
Lim, a former president of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, served as a private prosecutor in the impeachment trial of deposed Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona.
During Corona’s impeachment trial in 2012, Lim took center stage when Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago scolded and almost cited him in contempt for arguing with her.
Meanwhile, the Comelec released a resolution “to confirm and ratify the authority of Commissioners Arthur D. Lim and Ma. Rowena Amelia V. Guanzon to act as representatives of the Commission on Elections in G.R. No. 221697 and G.R. No. 221698-700 pending before the Supreme Court.”
Lim was assigned following the Solicitor General’s decision not to appear before the high court to defend the poll body for disqualifying Poe from the presidential race due to residency and citizenship issues.
The SC decided to go on with the previous schedule of the oral arguments on January 19, by which Poe is expected to attend after slide in the Social Weather Stations (SWS) presidential survey.
