MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Embassy in Jakarta advised Filipinos in Indonesia to remain indoors following the deadly attacks in the area.

"In the aftermath of the bombing incident in the Sarinah and other areas in Jakarta today, for personal safety and security, the Filipino community is advised to refrain from unnecessary movements outdoors and if possible to remain indoors," Ambassador Maria Lumen Isleta said in an advisory.

Isleta warned Filipinos in Indonesia not to venture in areas where the bombing incidents occurred as police investigation is still ongoing.

"The Filipino community is requested to convey to the Embassy information regarding any Filipino who may have been adversely affected by this tragic incident," Isleta said.

Witnesses reported that three suicide bomb explosions took place at a Starbucks cafe in downtown Jakarta.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo said that the situation is under control and called on the people to remain calm.

"The state, nation and people should not be afraid of, and lose to, such terror acts," Widodo said. - with reports from the Associated Press
