PNP to recall pols’ cop escorts

Bebot Sison Jr., Cecille Suerte Felipe - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) will order all police security escorts of politicians back to camp on Saturday, a day before the start of the election period as declared by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Chief Superintendent Alfred Corpus, Police Security Protection Group (PSPG) director, said yesterday anyone who needs police security will have to apply with the poll body and not with them.

“Starting Jan. 10 up to June 8, which is the election period, all security personnel provided for private individuals will be revoked,” Corpus told reporters.

He said about 800 policemen assigned to secure politicians will be affected by the order, which is in compliance with Comelec Resolution 10015 that orders the recall of all police security details as part of efforts to ensure a peaceful, orderly and honest election.

Corpus clarified though that protective agents or those employed by private security agencies would still be allowed to act as security of private individuals.
