DMCI ordered to secure safety of Torre de Manila
MANILA, Philippines - The Supreme Court ordered the DMCI Project Developers Inc. (DMCI-PI) to ensure the safety of the Torre de Manila despite the halt of its construction.
The high court earlier issued a temporary restraining order against the construction of the high-rise building deemed to be ruining the view behind the Rizal Monument in Manila.
The SC issued a four-page resolution dated Dec. 8, 2015 directing DMCI to conduct necessary safety measures for the building to avoid any incident that may harm the public.
"The Court Authorizes and Directs DMCI-PI to conduct the necessary safety and maintenance works on the Torre de Manila to prevent damages itself and to the public, until further orders from this Court," the SC said.
Voting 8-5, the high court magistrates voted in favor of the Order of the Knights of Rizal to stop the operations of DMCI-PI.
The petitioner filed their petition in September 2014. The SC issued the TRO against the construction of Torre de Manila in June 2015.
