MANILA, Philippines – It will be a wet New Year’s Day in the country’s eastern section while Metro Manila will have isolated light rains, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said yesterday.

In its weekly weather outlook, PAGASA said cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms will prevail over Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Caraga and Davao on Jan. 1.

Cloudy skies with light rains will also prevail over Cagayan Valley, while the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains.

The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy apart from isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

PAGASA is still not expecting any weather disturbance to enter the Philippines until Jan. 4.

The weather bureau earlier said temperatures are expected to dip further in January and February, the peak of the northeast monsoon season.

In Metro Manila, the temperature dropped again to 20 degrees Celsius yesterday. This was the coldest recorded in the capital since the northeast monsoon set in last October.
