MANILA, Philippines – Vice President Jejomar Binay yesterday honored Mother Teresa, days after Pope Francis approved a second miracle that would pave way for her canonization to sainthood.
“I join the Catholic faithful in celebrating the impending canonization of Mother Teresa,” Binay said in statement. “Mother Teresa was very close to the Filipino people. Her visits to the country left us with renewed faith and her dedication to the poor inspired us to do more for those in need.”
The Vice President said Mother Teresa, who founded the Missionaries of Charity, is an undying symbol of mercy and compassion.
“I pray that her canonization remind us of her passion to service and that it further inspire us to show genuine concern for the sick and the needy,” said Binay.
Earlier, Pope Francis recognized a second miracle attributed to the nun, known for her work among the poorest of the poor across the world.
She received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 2003.
