MANILA, Philippines – The University of the Philippines released the results of the UP College Admission Test (UPCAT) late Thursday night.
A total of 1,558 graduating high school students were accepted to different programs offered in various campuses of the university.
The number of accepted applicants significantly dropped from the usual intake of around 13,000 students due to the impending implementation of the senior high school program.
Starting 2016, graduates of Grade 10 (former fourth year high school) will have to enrol in Grades 11 and 12 before they will be allowed to enter college.
Only those who will graduate from schools implementing the senior high school program were allowed to take the UPCAT, which was administered last Aug. 30.
Over 6,000 students took the examination in 25 testing centers across the country.
Examinees will receive official notification by mail, according to the UP Office of Admissions.
Those with pending deficiencies are requested to submit the necessary documents starting Jan. 6.
“Pending cases are not guaranteed admission into any campus/college of the University of the Philippines,” UP said.
“For pending cases, all deficient requirements must be submitted on or before March 11, 2016.”
UPCAT consists of four subtests – Language Proficiency, Science, Mathematics and Reading Comprehension.
Based on information on the UPCAT website, “standardized scores on the subtests are combined with the weighted average of final grades in the first three years of high school to determine qualification into UP.
“Moreover, to implement the policy of democratization to make the UP studentry more representative of the nation’s population, socio-economic and geographic considerations are factored in the selection of campus qualifiers.”
UP offers more than 170 programs in its eight constituent universities: UP Diliman (with an extension program in Pampanga), UP Baguio, UP Los Baños, UP Manila (with Schools of Health Sciences in Baler, Palo and Koronadal), UP Visayas (with campuses in Iloilo/Miagao and Tacloban), UP Cebu, UP Mindanao and the Open University.
