20 Mindanao areas under signal no. 1 due to 'Onyok'
MANILA, Philippines (First published 9:43 a.m.) — Public storm warning signal no. 1 was raised in 20 areas in Mindanao on Friday morning as Tropical Depression Onyok accelerated, state weather bureau PAGASA said.
The cyclone continues to pose a threat the Caraga region and is expected to make landfall in the area by Friday night. Onyok moves closer to the Suriagao del Sur-Davao Oriental area.

At 10 a.m., Onyok was located 165 kilometers of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour. It is likely to move west at 17 kph.
Onyok is expected to weaken into a low pressure area once it makes landfall.
The estimated rainfall amount if from moderate to heavy within the 100-kilometer diameter of the tropical depression.
The state weather bureau warned that flash floods and landslides are possible in low lying and mountainous areas of provinces with public storm warning signals.
Onyok is forecasted to exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Sunday afternoon as a low pressure area.
