PhlPost, PPA chiefs tender resignations

MANILA, Philippines – Postmaster General Josefina dela Cruz and Philippine Port Authority (PPA) general manager Juan Sta. Ana have tendered their resignations.

Dela Cruz will run again for governor of Bulacan, while Sta. Ana will return to the private sector

The resignation of Dela Cruz will take effect tomorrow, and that of Sta. Ana at the end of the year.

Dela Cruz submitted her resignation letter to President Aquino last Monday and Sta. Ana last Friday through Transportation and Communication Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya.

Presidential Communications Operations Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said Abaya has submitted to Malacañang Sta. Ana’s letter of resignation..

In a telephone interview,   Dela Cruz said that it was a difficult decision  to leave the Philippine Postal Corp.

“It was a painful decision for me. I really did not want to leave the PHLPost,” she said.

“I will be facing a tough campaign battle when I run for governor.  I was hoping I did not have to leave (PHLPost). I would have preferred my brother to run. What our group needs is someone to lead the team, they are asking if I could run (for governor).”

“I am happy there. I would have wanted to finish what we have started. We have made improvements during my time… But in the end it is no longer just about me, it is about my family, it is about our team, it is about our province. So I filed my resignation last Monday and submitted it to President Aquino.”

She will run for governor as a substitute candidate for her brother Pete Mendoza under the National People’s Coalition (NPC), Dela Cruz said.

If Aquino fails to appoint her replacement or name an officer-in- charge, the PHLPost Board of Directors would meet on Thursday and might assign someone to act as OIC, she added. – Evelyn Macairan, Louella Desiderio, Delon Porcalla
