Typhoon to enter Philippines tonight

MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon In-fa is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility tonight, state weather forecasters said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the typhoon would be locally named Marilyn.

PAGASA said the typhoon, which is not expected to make landfall based on latest available data, was located at 1,810 kilometers east of Samar as of 10 a.m. yesterday. It has maximum sustained winds of 175 km per hour and gustiness of up to 210 km per hour. It is forecast to move west northwest at 25 km per hour.

The typhoon is expected to be at 1,265 km east of Aurora tomorrow morning.

It is expected to be at 1,065 km east of Cagayan on Tuesday morning and 1,120 km east of Batanes on Wednesday morning.

Marilyn is expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the weather bureau said an intertropical convergence zone is affecting Mindanao.
