Canada’s Trudeau arrives in Manila for APEC
MANILA, Philippines – Canada’s newly elected Prime Minister Justin Pierre James Trudeau arrived in Manila Tuesday afternoon to attend his first Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders’ Meeting.
Trudeau arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 around 5:40 p.m.
He was welcomed by Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala, Philippine ambassador to Canada Girly Garcia and Canadian ambassador to the Philippines Neil Reeder.

Since Trudeau won the legislative elections last October 19 and was only sworn on November 4, APEC is only his second international trip as Canada’s prime minister. The first one was in Antalya, Turkey when he attended the G20 Leaders’ Summit from November 15 to 16.
Trudeau is not scheduled to deliver any speech but on the margins of APEC he will hold bilateral discussions with other leaders including United States President Barack Obama. He also held bilateral meetings during the G20 Leaders’ Summit.
The new Canadian prime minister will attend two more international conferences before the year ends.
After APEC, he is slated to join fellow Commonwealth leaders for talks to be held in Malta on November 27 to 28. He will also attend the United Nations climate talks in Paris, France on November 30.
Trudeau, 43, is the eldest son of former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. He is the first child of a former Canadian prime minister to hold the position.
