DFA: No Filipino casualty in Paris attacks

Patricia Lourdes Viray - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Saturday assured that no Filipino casualty has been reported yet in the coordinated attacks in Paris, France.

"So far there are no reports of Filipinos affected by the incident in Paris. Our embassy continues to monitor closely the situation and stands ready to extend assistance to Filipinos who may need it," DFA spokesperson Charles Jose said.

The terrorist attacks in Paris left more than 140 dead and dozens others injured.

A 2013 data from the Commission on Filipino Overseas showed that around 48,000 Filipinos are in France while 10 million are scattered across the globe.

This makes them vulnerable to security threats, calamities and domestic conflicts in their host countries, according to a report.

French President Francois Hollande has declared a state of emergency and ordered to close the country's borders.

He pledged that France would stand firm against what he called terrorism. - With reports from Associated Press
