DOJ fires 2 Immigration employees

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Wednesday ordered the removal from office of two Bureau of Immigration (BI) employees after they were found guilty of soliciting money.

Ordered dismissed from the bureau were Immigration Assistant Salvacion Binuya and Immigration Officer Joel Gonzales.

The sacked employees were accused of grave misconduct, gross negligence of duty and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service.

Binuya was found to have solicited money from a complainant for the extension of his visa, requiring him to deposit the payment to her personal account.

Gonzales, meanwhile, was sacked for he was found guilty of connving to facilitate the departure of three human trafficking victims bound for South Korea.

Two separate orders to dismiss them from office were issued on Wednesday.

The Bureau of Immigration is an affiliate agency of the DOJ.
