'Lando' weakens further, to bring rains over northern Luzon
MANILA, Philippines - Tropical cyclone Lando has weakened into a tropical depression but will continue to bring rains with gusty winds over northern Luzon, PAGASA said on Wednesday.
Lando is expected to further weaken into a low pressure area within the next 24 hours.
At 4 a.m., the tropical depression was located 60 kilometers north of Calayan, Cagayan with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center.
Public storm warning signal no. 1 is raised in Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Batanes and Cagayan including Calayan and Babuyan group of islands.
The said provinces will experience occasional rains and gusty winds. Residents in low-lying and mountainous areas are alerted against possible flash floods and landslides.
The weather bureau said that the weather will gradually improve in most parts of Luzon as public storm warning signals have been lifted.
Lando is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Sunday.
Meanwhile, the rest of Cagayan Valley, Cordillera and Ilocos will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms. Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms.
