NDRRMC: 'Lando' leaves 12 dead, 60,000 families affected
MANILA, Philippines - The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Tuesday reported that Typhoon Lando (international name Koppu) left 12 persons dead and 60,170 families or 290,797 individuals affected.
According to the agency, 15,603 families or 70,503 persons are being housed in 376 evacuation centers in Luzon. Meanwhile, 27,142 families or 132,621 persons stay outside evacuation centers.
The additional casualties due to the typhoon were recorded in Nueva Vizcaya, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, National Capital Region, Ifugao and Benguet.
Seven individuals from Nueva Ecija and Quezon City have been reported injured.
Some 73 sections of national roads and 24 bridges in Mt. Province, Kalinga, Ilocos Norte, Nueva Vizcaya and Pangasinan remain impassable.
Qurino, Nueva Vizcaya, Aurora, Kalinga and Mt. Province are still experiencing power outages due to the onslaught of Lando.
The NDRRMC reported that initial cost of damages in agriculture in regions 1, 2 and CAR is worth P182,714,230.27.
Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin and Interior Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento are on their way to Aurora for initial assessment of damages in the provinces, the NDRRMC added.
The Office of Civil Defense earlier reported that the typhoon affected at least 49,096 families and left at least 17 people dead.
