'Lando' weakens, traverses Ilocos coastline

MANILA, Philippines - Typhoon 'Lando' has weakened as it traverses the coastline of Ilocos provinces, weather bureau PAGASA said on Monday afternoon.

At 4 p.m., the typhoon was located 20 kilometers west of Vigan City, Ilocos Sur with maximum sustained winds of 105 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 135 kph. It is likely to move north northeast at 5 kph.

Public storm warning signals are still raised in the following areas:

• Mt. Province
• Cagayan
• Calayan
• Babuyan

• La Union
• Pangasinan
• Ifugao
• Benguet
• Batanes
• Isabela
• Quirino
• Aurora
• Nueva Vizcaya
• Nueva Ecija
• Zambales
• Tarlac
• Pampanga

Provinces under storm warning signals will continue to experience occasional rains and gusty winds while storm surge may reach a maximum of up to 2 meters.

PAGASA warned that estimated rainfall amount within the 600-kilometer diameter of the typhoon is heavy to intense.

"Fisherfolk are advised not to venture out over the seaboards of Luzon and Visayas," PAGASA said.

Lando is expected to leave land mass by Wednesday and exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Sunday.
