MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV on Wednesday officially filed his certificate of candidacy for vice president before the Commission on Elections.

Trillanes, a member of the Nacionalista Party, will run as an independent vice presidential candidate in the 2016 national elections with the support of the military-linked Magdalo group.

Two other Nacionalista senators—Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano and Sen. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.—are vying for vice president.

The senator officially declared his vice presidential bid a few weeks ago, stressing that his platform will focus on peace and order, anti-corruption and alleviating poverty.

Upon declaring his vice presidential bid, Trillanes also announced his support for independent presidential aspirant Sen. Grace Poe.

However, Poe has chosen Sen. Francis "Chiz" Escudero as her running mate in the 2016 elections.
