Noy government rating improves in Q3 – SWS
MANILA, Philippines - The Aquino administration’s net satisfaction rating rose by six points to +37 in the third quarter of the year, according to the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey.
The SWS said 59 percent of respondents said they were satisfied with the performance of the national government while 22 percent said otherwise, for a net satisfaction score of +37.
The poll was conducted from Sept. 2 to 5 using face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adults nationwide.
The administration’s latest net satisfaction rating was an improvement from +31 (55 percent satisfied, 24 percent dissatisfied) in June.
It was also its highest score since the “good” +45 it received in March last year.
SWS classifies net satisfaction scores of +70 and above as “excellent”; +50 to +69 as “very good”; +30 to +49, “good”; +10 to +29, “moderate”; +9 to -9, “neutral”; -10 to -29, “poor”; -30 to -49, “bad”; -50 to -69, “very bad,” and -70 and below, “execrable.”
Results of the SWS third quarter survey on the satisfaction ratings of the national government were published in BusinessWorld yesterday.
By area, the national administration’s net satisfaction went up by 15 points to a “good” +44 in balance Luzon from a “moderate” +29 in June, the pollster said.
It stayed “moderate” in Metro Manila although up from +18 in June to +24 last month and the highest since September 2014’s “good” +36.
In the Visayas, satisfaction with the administration dropped by nine points to +34 but remained in “good” territory.
In Mindanao, satisfaction with the government was unchanged at +34.
By socioeconomic class, public satisfaction with the administration improved by nine points to a “good” +38 in September from June’s “moderate” +29 among those belonging to class D.
It increased by two points to +40 among those in class E but stayed in “good” category.
Satisfaction with the government dropped by 12 points to a “moderate” +21 from a “good” +33 among those in the ABC class.
Rated on its performance in 23 issues, the Aquino government scored “good” in five, “moderate” in nine, “neutral” in eight and “bad” in one.
The biggest improvements were registered in fighting inflation, to a “neutral” +5 in September from a “poor” -11 in June; ensuring that no family will ever be hungry to a “neutral” +3 from a “poor” -12; eradicating graft and corruption to a “moderate” +15 from a “neutral” +1, and deciding quickly on important problems to +15 from +11.
The government’s net satisfaction in restoring peace to Mindanao dropped by seven points to +16 from +23.
Reacting to the SWS survey, a Palace official said the Aquino government has enjoyed the highest satisfaction rating compared to other administrations. – Delon Porcalla
