MANILA, Philippines - Quezon City Mayor Herbert "Bistek" Bautista on Friday revealed that he will seek for reelection instead of running for senator in the 2016 elections.
"Ang naging desisyon ng pamilya namin - ang napagkasunduan dun ay marami ka pang dapat gawin sa Quezon City. Marami akong mga nakabitin na projects like waste-to-energy project, Philippine Diamond Tower and Quezon City socialized housing project," Bautista said in a telephone interview with ANC's Headstart.
Bautista added that he consulted friends, classmates, department heads, elected officials, his family and spiritual adviser regarding his plan for next year.
He admitted that it was presidential sister Kris Aquino who asked him to seek a third term as Quezon City mayor.
"She also wants me to run for reelection. She told me that if I decide to run for the Senate, then she will also help me," Bautista said.
The Quezon City mayor also expressed his gratitude to the Aquino family for being supportive.
Once again, the Liberal Party postponed its announcement of its senatorial lineup due to the recent withdrawal of Metro Manila Development Authority Chair Francis Tolentino and the pending decision of Bautista.
The administration was supposed to present its complete senatorial slate today but was postponed for Monday.
