Makati City mourns Joker Arroyo’s death
MANILA, Philippines – Makati City mourned the passing of former Sen. Joker Arroyo also, a three-term representative of the first district of Makati from 1992 to 2001.
Arroyo was instrumental in the attainment of Makati’s cityhood in 1991. He also contributed to the subsequent creation of its second district.
“The city government and the people of Makati will forever be grateful to former Sen. Joker Arroyo, who was among the pillars of the city’s transformation into the thriving financial center that it is today,” Acting Makati City Mayor Romulo "Kid" Peña said.
“We salute him for having generously shared his brilliant mind, matched only by his brave yet compassionate heart, in bringing about sustainable and inclusive progress for the benefit of all Filipinos today and in the future,” he added.
Peña expressed Makati City’s condolences to the family, including Arroyo’s widow, lawyer Felicitas Aquino-Arroyo, and his daughters, Ma. Antonia Odelia, Ma. Zef Francisca and Joker.
Arroyo passed away due to heart attack late Monday at the age of 88. He died in an undisclosed hospital abroad.
