MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Affairs (DFA) is currently verifying the identity of an alleged Filipino national arrested and suspected for involvement in terrorism in Saudi Arabia.

DFA spokesperson Charles Jose said on Monday the Philippine embassy in Riyadh already coordinated with authorities to have access to the alleged Filipina identified by Saudi media as Lady Gioi Aban Bali Nang.

"Our embassy would like to see her face to face and talk to her to verify her identity and nationality," Jose said.

Jose said the embassy is waiting for the Saudi Foreign Ministry to grant the request for communication with the suspect.

"We'll be able to get more details once the embassy talks to her. We are still awaiting word from the ministry,” Jose said.

On Sunday, the Palace said DFA requested access to speak with Nang and confirm her nationality so that they can provide legal assistance if necessary.

"Sa huling ulat ay sinisikap na makausap ‘yung ating kababayan na nabanggit sa ulat para mabigyan ng kinauukulang legal assistance hinggil dito," Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a radio interview.

Reports said the woman was arrested by the authorities on Wednesday for alleged involvement in terrorist activities.

Nang was reportedly held along with a Syrian national, wearing a suicide vest. She was suspected to have helped in assembling explosive devices and sewing suicide vests.
