PNoy: Complete LP senatorial ticket known on Friday

Louis Bacani - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines — The Liberal Party (LP) will reveal its complete senatorial lineup on October 9, President Benigno Aquino III said Monday.

During the announcement of Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo's vice presidential candidacy, Aquino said the LP remains intact unlike other political parties.

"Sa Biyernes, kapag inihain na natin sa ating mga boss ang ating senatorial slate, lalo pang magiging malinaw: Habang hirap na hirap ang iba na magtagpi-tagpi ng koalisyon, buong-buo naman ang ating puwersa," Aquino said.

So far, only four individuals have been included in the final senatorial ticket of the LP.

During their national convention last week, LP leaders named Senate President Franklin Drilon, Sens. Teofisto Guingona III and Ralph Recto and former Sen. Francis Panglinan as the party's senatorial bets.

Earlier, LP stalwarts said there were 15 names in their draft list of senatorial candidates.

The LP leadership has passed a resolution authorizing their standard-bearer, Manuel Roxas II, to select the remaining eight senatorial candidates.

Among those reportedly included in the LP's list of senatorial aspirants are Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Director General Joel Villanueva, Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla, Metro Manila Development Authority Chairperson Francis Tolentino and Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno.

Justice Secretary Leila de Lima on Monday also confirmed her intention to run for senator.
