MANILA, Philippines - Senate Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile was taken to hospital yesterday due to dengue.
Enrile’s daughter Katrina, who is in the United States, confirmed that her father was brought to the Makati Medical Center before dawn yesterday.
Enrile has not reported for work at the Senate since Monday.
Senate deputy minority leader Sen. Vicente Sotto III said Enrile was suffering from flu.
“He has dengue. His platelet went down already. He’s in Makati Med. They’re monitoring him,” Katrina said.
Enrile was recently released from hospital detention after the Supreme Court allowed him to post bail.
He spent a year in detention for plunder charges over his alleged involvement in the pork barrel scam.
Enrile’s lawyers cited his age and poor health in asking the court to allow him to post bail.
A few days after his release the senator attended plenary sessions at the Senate and a hearing of the Commission on Appointments.
