SWS: 3 in 4 Pinoys eligible to vote

MANILA, Philippines - Three out of four or 76 percent of adult Filipino are validated to vote for the 2016 national elections, the Social Weather Stations said on Monday.

Meanwhile, 16 percent of adult Filipinos are registered but not validated to vote while 8 percent of adults are unregistered.

"Validation is the process of capturing some of the biometrics of a voter: photograph, fingerprints and signature, using COMELEC's Voter Registration Machine," the SWS said.

Biometrics is done in able to complete a voter's registration record so as not to be deactivated. Only those who have been validated will be allowed to vote for the 2016 polls.

On the other hand, 71 percent of the eligible voters are from urban areas while 82 percent are from rural areas.

Those who are from class E have the highest number of validated voters with 77 percent. Class D recorded 76 validated voters while classes A, B and C had 71 percent.

In terms of educational attainment, 79 percent of the eligible voters are college graduates while 76 percent are high school graduates or vocational school graduates. 76 of the eligible voters are elementary graduates while 77 percent are had none or some elementary education.

The survey was conducted from June 5 to 8 among 1,200 respondents nationwide.

The Commission on Elections has earlier reminded the public that they can still undergo biometrics registration until October 31 in their local poll offices.
