MANILA, Philippines - After being acquitted of murder charge, a Quezon court has ordered the the daughter of the late New People's Army spokesman Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal released from jail.
In an order, Judge Rodolfo Obnamia Jr. of the Fourth Judicial Region Branch 64 in Mauban, Quezon directed Andrea Rosal's release from her detention cell inside Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.
"...the Court orders the immediate release from incarceration accused Andrea Rosal from custody unless held or detained for some other unlawful cause of offense," the court's order read.
Lawyer Edre Olalia, one of Rosal's legal counsels, said Andrea was released from her detention cell Monday night after the court order was issued.
Olalia said that Andre has regained her freedom after 18 months in jail without the compassion of the government which " refuses or ignores pleas... for humanitarian cries."
"She has proven that all charges against her were false pernicious. This malicious persecution has lost her precious time, cost her a child, and brought deep anguish to her family," Olalia said.
"All those responsible for her misery must be made to account and restitute the irreparable damage to her and her dead baby daughter," he said.
In May last year, Rosal's baby died after giving birth while detained at Camp Bagong Diwa.
