LPA spotted off Samar
MANILA, Philippines - Residents of Eastern Visayas and the Bicol region can expect a rainy weekend due to a low-pressure area spotted off Guiuan, Eastern Samar, the state weather bureau said yesterday.
As of 4 p.m. yesterday, the low-pressure area was located at 180 kilometers east of Guiuan, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
Rene Paciente, PAGASA marine meteorological services section chief, said the low-pressure area has a slim chance of intensifying into a cyclone based on latest forecast.
Should the low-pressure area develop into a cyclone while inside the country, it will be given the local name Jenny.
The weather system is expected to bring light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas and the Bicol region, Paciente said.
The rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.
The weather bureau said two more cyclones are expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility this month.
